TED & Self-Confidence
Feeling self-confident most of the time is not easy for anyone. It is especially challenging for those of us who are diagnosed with TED. The changes to our eyes and, for some, our faces can be devastating. Equally difficult is how others react when seeing us – those whom we know and also strangers who try not to stare! How can we rebuild our confidence when dealing with TED. Let’s talk about it.
TED & Common Fears
If you are experiencing particular fears related to TED, you can be sure that many others have the same suffering for the same reasons. Some fears are related to compromised eyesight. Others have to do with one’s appearance. There are financial fears. And social anxiety is nearly unavoidable with TED. And most prevalent, fearing TED will come back. How can we minimize these fears and maximize peace of mind?
Which treatment option is right for you?
Eye drops and waiting? How about long term steroid infusions or pills? FDA approved Tepezza is another option. Selecting a clinical trial can be a treatment choice. And then there is orbital radiation. Each one comes with pluses and minuses, including side effects that may last a lifetime. What is the best method for choosing the right course for you?
On a final note:
Take a TED Break! There are many ways this can be accomplished. Spend time in nature. Get together with a friend who accepts you as you are. Enjoy a movie. Make art. Dust off your bicycle and go on an adventure. TED can be overbearing at times and stepping away into a pleasurable activity can be restorative. Taking a break from TED can also give us a healthy perspective. This conscious separation from TED allows one to make the best choices in terms of self-care and medical assistance.
